The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah (or Chanukah) commemorates the  “miracle of the container of oil”. In 2009, the holidays lasts from sunset December 11 to sunset December 19 — a total of 8 days. Customary rituals include lighting of the 9 candles on the menorah, eating festive meals (like latkes and sufganiyot) and reciting Hallel prayer.
