
Police arrested a woman who was praying at the Western Wall in Jerusalem. She was wrapped in a prayer shawl (tallit). She was part of a group of women who come to wall to Pray as part of the Rosh Hodesh prayer and read the Torah Scroll out loud). The group is called, “Woman of the Wall”.
Police said that the woman violated the dress code that was put in place by the High Court. The Woman of the Wall group leader said that this was the first time in history of Israel for a incident like this to occur where a woman was arrested for wearing a prayer shawl and reading from the Torah. A Rabbi on the scene said that this was clearly a move to provoke people and turn this into a battle area.
