In Beijing, China followers of an unapproved church (Shouwang church) were forced by the government to find a new place to worship Sunday. Worship in China is governed by the Communist Party (who are officially atheist) and is allowed only in state-approved churches. There are millions of people belong to unregistered/unapproved churches unapproved in China.
This is the 2nd time that this particular unapproved church of 800 members was forced to find a new place to worship. The timing may be aligned to the visit of President Obama to see how he reacts to this during his while there.
Underground churches are common in China. Another well-known church in Shanghi (Wanbang) has been told by the Chinese government to close. As the churches gain popularity, the Government quickly targets them. The underground churches are hoping that President Obama will speak about the matter during his visit.
We need to pray for these churches in China that they are able to pray and worship freely. We need to pray that President Obama finds the right words to appeal to the Chinese on matters such as this.
